Nintendo DS: Japanese Cultural Phenomenon

Filed under: Cool stuff, DS Lite, Gaming, Japan, Nintendo, Thoughts, YouTube — Daniel @ 11:12 pm

Japan Lines up for DS

Should you ever take a trip to Japan, chances are you’ll see more than a few Nintendo DS portable game systems being played. Not just by children or gaming adults, but by anyone, young or old. They’re everywhere. It’s common to see people playing them on the train on their way to work, during lunch breaks, or, ironically, in the long queues that form when another shipment of DS Lites arrive at a store. That’s right. Such is the success and widespread appeal of Nintendo’s portable, it’s almost impossible to purchase one without lining up for hours in advance, even now, 2 years after they were officially launched.

Crazy-talk: The REAL Hero of Star Wars

Filed under: Movies, Nonsense, Star Wars, Thoughts, WTF — Daniel @ 1:56 pm

Chewbacca and LeiaRecently, I’ve been speaking to a friend of mine about the Star Wars saga. My friend could be considered a Star Wars novice, especially when it comes to the Prequel Trilogy, so having to explain certain things to her brought me back to something I’d often reflected on in the past. Just who is the hero of the Star Wars films?

Luke Skywalker, some might answer. The more Star Wars savvy out there will surely say “Anakin Skywalker, after all, he killed the Emperor and brought the Force back into balance”, presumably while pushing up their glasses and swishing their Hasbro Lightsabers in the air. “Even Lucas said so!”

Well you’re wrong. All of you. Even you, George, and you don’t even know it… (more…)

Ayumi HamasakiWho?

Ayumi Hamasaki, that’s who. Apparently she’s known as the ‘Empress of J-Pop’, and has sold over 40 million records, making her the highest selling Japanese female artist of all time in Japan. At least that’s what wikipedia says anyway.

Making an appearance on Japanese TV show, Hey! Hey! Hey! Ayumi is tasked with playing WarioWare: Smooth Moves for the Wii. How will she fare? See the results below…

Sony: PLAYSTATION 3 is not a games console

Sigh. They’re at it again. Not content with lying to consumers (“The PS3 will have almost perfect backwards compatibility. There will be some exceptions, but we believe those will be even less than we saw from PSOne to PS2.”), and spouting ridiculous postulations (“Playstation 3 will be in 4D”), Sony have opened their collective mouth once again and have now come up with the ultimate excuse reason why PS3 sales are poor compared to those of the Wii. Michael Ephraim, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia’s Managing Director, take it away:

Back to the Wii comment, we have to compare apples with apples. They do not have these kind of applications. We think PS3 is not a product to be compared with Wii, it is a completely different product. This is a digital hub, that is a games console.

Oh? When did it make the transition? Before or after the sales figures surfaced? (more…)

The Angry Video Game Nerd

The Angry Video Game Nerd (or Angry Nintendo Nerd as he used to be known) is my new hero. The way he mercilessly just rips into these games is priceless. This is his review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES:

I <3 Neon Genesis Evangelion

Asuka Model

See that model? One day it shall be mine. Oh yes. I recently started collecting Neon Genesis Evangelion models and figures, just because I like the show so damn much. So far, I’ve only got a few gashapon figures and 1 Asuka figure that’s about 8” or so in height, but you’ve got to start somewhere right?

It’s kind of interesting how I became interested in Eva in the first place…

Filed under: FIRST POST!, NEW BEGINNINGS — Daniel @ 11:50 pm

Man, I can’t believe I’m doing this. I always said I wouldn’t. I never thought I would. Yet, here I am, 10 years into my internet-using life, and I’ve started a blog. Good God.

What’s this blog gonna be about anyway?

Heck knows.

Why MeepleMorph?

Why not?

Do you have any idea what you’re doing?

Not really.

Let’s just see how this goes…
